Regarding the passenger train from this capital to the western David city alias Chiriqui, the diplomat told the press she expects Chinese companies to be able to participate in the bidding process, under equal conditions.
In 2019, the then China’s Ambassador Wei Qiang delivered to Panama the outcome of a feasibility study for the project’s construction.
The authority added that the work was conducted by the China Railway Design Corporation, and delivered to Oscar Ramirez, then coordinator of the high-level commission of the Panama-David railroad project.
On this matter, Mulino advanced that the construction process will set off in Chiriqui, while the appointed Secretary of Goals and future Minister for Canal Affairs Jose Ramon Icaza said it was a State project and a priority for the Executive to take office on July 1st.
Concerning the study, Xueyuan pointed out that at the time it had “very positive” results, but it will be the decision of the new Government to use it or seek a second strategy with other countries in the world.
The diplomat explained that the extension of this train will be of over 400 kilometers, which makes it a work to be developed by multiple companies and not only by one enterprise.
“When the bidding process is opened, companies from all over the world will come to participate in the project, and there are Chinese companies, such as China Construction Company Corporation and others that are qualified to participate, which means that they are following the project very closely,” she remarked.
