David DePape, 44, was convicted of assault and attempted kidnapping of a federal official in November after a week-long trial in San Francisco.
The now-convicted man broke into the Pelosi residence in California armed with a hammer on October 28, 2022.
During the trial, Pelosi, 84, testified that he woke up in a pool of his own blood and sustained a skull fracture, and has been suffering from constant headaches and dizziness ever since.
DePape’s sentence is less than prosecutors had called for, who asked to lengthen the sentence to 40 years.
“At a time when extremism has led to attacks against public and elected officials (…) This case presents a strong deterrent value in saying that violent ideological attacks will be punished to the fullest extent of the law,” they warned.
