Peace in Port au Prince was illusory, the gangs attack again

Port au Prince, May 17 (Prensa Latina) The peace that many felt these days in the Haitian capital was pure illusion, the coalition of gangs made itself felt today with a coordinated attack against the Superior Court of Accounts and Administrative Litigation.

It would be more news about gang members if the armed action had not taken place a few meters from the National Palace, perhaps, after the international airport, the place best protected by the Haitian National Police and other commands that are subordinate to it.

“The bandits took over the offices of the Superior Court of Accounts and Administrative Litigation,” said an advisor to the Transitional Presidential Council whose name was not revealed by the newspaper Le Nouvelliste.

Since Thursday, the criminals had begun their attack, and they continued it this day, the source said.

Although the intensity of the gangs’ actions was not the same this week compared to others, and an apparent peace could be simulated in many parts of Port au Prince, the gang members attacked houses and set vehicles on fire in their efforts to reach the neighborhoods of Delmas 24 and Solino.

At the southern exit of the capital, from Carrefour to Gressier, the bandits keep the area on the boil.

Hundreds of residents fled their homes to escape the criminals. To date, according to the newspaper, the number of victims of these attacks is unknown.

The day before, the mayor of Carrefour, Jude Édouard Pierre, confirmed that the bandits entered the town to organize the defense of their backyard so as not to be displaced by other criminals.

Faced with this movement, the police officers at the Omega police station were unable to respond to the armed gangs.
