In Cuba, love is law and will continue to be so, president says

Havana, May 17 (Prensa Latina) In Cuba, love is law and will continue to be so and together we built a Family Code that is committed to respect, inclusion and the rights of all people, President Miguel Díaz-Canel stated on Friday.

On his X profile, the head of State noted that Cuba proudly celebrates the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia.

On the same social network, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez, underscored Cuba’s commitment to ensuring that all people receive the same protection and treatment and enjoy the same rights, without discrimination based on their sexual orientation or gender identity.

The Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Communist Party (PCC), Roberto Morales, highlighted that Cuba celebrates this date with the implementation of an advanced and fair Family Code.

Cuba encourages the effective exercise of the sexual rights of LGTBIQ+ people in the context of the National Days against Homophobia and Transphobia, which take place from May 3 to 18, under the motto: “For all families, love is law.”

The combination of academic, cultural, sexual education and community activities promotes this purpose, the director of the National Sex Education Center, Mariela Castro Espín, said during a recent television appearance on the Mesa Redonda news program.

The expert highlighted the need to educate in respect and non-discrimination and to continue to make the forms of violence in which transsexual people and their families experience visible.

On May 17, the International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia is celebrated to commemorate the elimination of homosexuality from the list of mental illnesses by the General Assembly of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1990.
