The album revives the performances of Cuba’s great mambo and cha-cha orchestras at the time when they were very popular at dance halls.
Fonseca and his musicians delighted the audience with pieces that show respect for those who created sounds and works that have accompanied us as the soundtrack of our lives, in a combination of all rhythms, and as a foundation, the omniscient Cuban clave, diplomatic sources said.
In his words to the audience, Roberto Fonseca recalled his elementary school teachers, those at the Higher Institute of Art, where he got a Master’s Degree in Musical Composition, his family, the great Ibrahim Ferrer, Rubén González and Omara Portuondo, and above all everything, to his people.
The musician has been nominated for a Latin Grammy in 2007 with Ibrahím Ferrer’s production, “Mi Sueño” (My Dream), in the category of “Best Traditional Tropical Album,” and in 2014, with the album “Yo,” as “Best Latin Jazz Album.
In 2008, his song “Cachaíto Llegó (Cachaíto Arrived), from his album Zamazu, was included in the soundtrack of the film Hancock, starring US actor Will Smith.
