Cuba congratulates the people and Government of the Kingdom of Norway on its National Day, the MINREX wrote on its X profile.
“We reiterate the will to strengthen relations of friendship and cooperation between our countries,” the text concluded.
Norway’s Constitution was signed in Eidsvoll on May 17, 1814, when the country was declared an independent kingdom to avoid being ceded to Sweden after the devastating defeat of Denmark in the Napoleonic Wars.
This date’s celebration started spontaneously among students and other people. After 1864, the festivity became permanent when the first children’s parade, initially by boys only, was held in Christiania.
