In his Facebook account, the expert mentioned several issues related to the subject of great interest for tour operators and travel agents.
He said that an estimated six million citizens of the Caribbean Community (Caricom) could benefit from an intrarregional ferry service for goods and travel as of August 2024.
At a press conference on May 13, Dr. Andre Thomas, chief executive officer of Pleion Group Inc, said its initial plan to begin sailing in November was accelerated through two recent partnerships. One, he said, is with the Caricom Private Sector Organization (CPSO), whose guidance and data help them move faster.
For the Caribbean executive, their understanding of the commercial landscape is indispensable in guiding logistical and strategic tactical decision-making as it really pertains to this project.
The second critical partnership is with Jampur Group, based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). He said they reached an agreement with them to provide the first ships to service the island chain.
He noted that, at the earliest, the new timeframe for the first voyage is between August and October. This, he said, will be mainly for cargo and voyages. He said the goal is to eventually have about 10 cargo vessels and two large luxury ships for voyages with capacity for up to 1,000 passengers at a time.
