The vice dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the center of high studies, Alvaro Caamaño, expressed that the Academy will always have a space to honor the National Hero of Cuba José Martí, whom he described as “a great man, poet, and politician, lawyer, writer and an outstanding patriot for independence”.
The founder of the Cuban Revolutionary Party, one of its most exemplary and consistent militants, fell in combat on May 19, 1895 in Dos Ríos, in the eastern part of the country.
For the occasion, Dominican professor Luis de León, coordinator of the José Martí Extracurricular Program, said that one of the most extraordinary thinkers born in this hemisphere is a reference of integrity and honesty, who “always sought the integration and self-determination of the peoples of the Americas”.
The tribute to the general in chief of the Liberator Army of Cuba took place at the Latin American Unity Plaza of the UASD, occasion in which those present demanded the end of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba. jrr/jav/mem/mpv
