Angola prepares vaccination against polio for children

Luanda, May 16 (Prensa Latina) Angola is preparing today a vaccination campaign against polio that should reach more than five million 500 thousand children between zero and four years across the country.

Starting tomorrow and officially launched in the commune of Calumbo, in the municipality of Viana, Luanda province, the first of the two immunization stages will last until May 19, according to the national director of Public Health, Helga Freitas.

The functionary explained to the Angolan Press Agency that the vaccination strategy will be door-to-door and at the usual posts such as health centers, schools, kindergartens, and markets.

She called on citizens to take infants of the age to receive the dose of the immunogen to the posts destined for this purpose, or let the vaccinators do their job when they go to their homes.

In this regard, she said that eradication of polio is a global and national commitment to protect the children’s health and keep the country free of this disease.

A total of 11,300 brigadiers will be involved and mobilized for this campaign, whose second stage is scheduled from June 28 to 30.
