The event, which is being held in the U.S. city of Atlanta under the theme ‘Connecting the African Diaspora’, is being attended by more than 250 participants.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Luis Gilberto Murillo stressed that the two countries have a very important relationship, in which new issues of common interest have been raised as a response to the climate crisis, peace issues, defense of human rights, democracy, and issues of migration and human mobility.
As reported, the Summit will address issues such as education, international cooperation, public policies, environment, economic and business development, among others.
The idea for the event arose in response to a bilateral agenda established between Colombian and U.S. leaders, with the clear purpose of fostering ethnic and racial equality, promoting the exchange of experiences, establishing support networks and catalyzing the economic and social development of these peoples and communities.
In addition, it seeks to make visible and recognize the Afro-descendant People at the international level, supporting the construction of an agenda for life and peace in the Afro-descendant territories in both nations, the communiqué added.
