Next Arab League summit will be focused on Palestine

Cairo, May 14 (Prensa Latina) The Assistant Secretary General of the Arab League, Hossam Zaki, confirmed that the organization's summit, which will be held this week in Bahrain, will have as its central theme the Palestinian cause and Israeli aggression.

“We will address the Palestinian issue in all its aspects in the context of the Israeli war against the Gaza Strip,” the Assistant stressed in a statement, assuring that the organization is developing an intense agenda of contacts to increase the list of countries that recognize the State of Palestine and grant it full membership in the United Nations.

Zaki noted that they are also working to hold an international peace conference, on which the summit is expected to issue decisions.

The Palestinian issue is fundamental for the Arabs, and that is why its debate is at the center of the concerns of the leaders of this area, said the Arab functionary. He recalled that in recent years, the resolutions related to the issue headed the final declarations of the Arab summits.

Since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza on October 7th, the Arab League held several meetings at the level of delegates and foreign ministers to address the crisis, Zaki noted, citing as an example an Arab-Islamic summit held in November last year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Zaki detailed that next Thursday’s summit will also address other conflicts affecting the region, including those in Sudan, Yemen, Libya, and Syria.
