Ukrainian strikes on Belgorod cause 19 civilian deaths

Moscow, May 13 (Prensa Latina) At least 19 people lost their lives last Sunday due to Ukrainian strikes on the Russian border province of Belgorod, governor Viacheslav Gladkov reported.

Most of the victims lived in a 10-story residential building that collapsed due to the impact of Ukrainian ordnance, the official wrote this Monday on his Telegram channel.

“So far, the bodies of 15 people have been recovered from the rubble. Three more civilians were killed during the subsequent attacks. Another woman, who was wounded on May 11th, died in the hospital. The casualties we suffered yesterday amount to 19 people, innocent civilians.”, Gladkov published.

Another 27 people were injured. The number includes 10 who were sent home after receiving outpatient care; six people who will be redirected to federal clinics, including a one-and-a-half month-old child with his mother; and 11 more who are still admitted to Belgorod hospitals.

Most local residents whose apartments were damaged in the attack found shelter in relatives’ homes, but 36 people remain in temporary shelters, Gladkov said.

Russian territories bordering Ukraine, such as Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk, and Voronezh, regularly report shell hits, drone incursions, and other attacks from across the border, forcing the population to seek refuge elsewhere.

Belgorod province has been the most affected, with several incursions by sabotage groups from Ukraine in recent months and continuous strikes on border municipalities using multiple rocket launchers, artillery, and drones.
