Official media informed that Samer al-Khalil made that remark during the ministerial meeting of the Economic and Social Council of the Arab League that is taking place in Manama, the capital of Bahrain, where the Arab Summit will be held on May 16.
The minister stressed the need to address the factors that negatively affect the supply chains of goods, food, and services, and explore jointly ways to address the existing risks in food security.
The head of the Syrian delegation presented a proposal for the General Secretariat of the Arab League to prepare a study on the opportunities for Arab economic integration, especially in food production, given each country’s capabilities, in addition to establishing joint food companies.
He called for implementing joint Arab economic actions, whether in efforts to liberalize intra-regional trade or developing the provisions of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), in addition to launching the Arab Trade Observatory.
