Guatemala to record extreme heat forecast till May 19

Guatemala City, May 13 (Prensa Latina) Guatemala's National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (INSIVUMEH) forecast on Monday extreme temperatures, mainly above 40 degrees Celsius in several departments, until May 19.

‘We keep an instability zone on the Pacific side, as well as in Chiapas, Mexico; therefore, we continue under the influence of low pressure,’ meteorologist Cesar George explained.

INSIVUMEH registered maximum temperatures on Sunday afternoon in eastern Zacapa (42.5 degrees Celcius), Peten (42.2), San Marcos (38.4), Retalhuleu (36.6), and Izabal (35).

However, INSIVUMEH noted, temperatures will keep too high and strongly recommended not to expose oneself to sun for prolonged periods, to take the necessary precautions in view of the expected rainfall and possible wildfires.
