A Foreign Ministry statement quoted by the state-run KCNA news agency said that the international community thus expressed its aspiration to achieve peace and stability in the Middle East as soon as possible.
It stressed that the decision comes amid the killing of thousands of Palestinians by Israel and the flagrant violation of the Palestinians’ right to exist as a State due to the exercise of the veto by the US in the Security Council.
The DPRK expresses its full support and solidarity for the cause of the Palestinian people to end Israel’s illegal occupation and build an independent State, and joins the international community’s efforts for peace and stability in the Middle East, the Foreign Ministry said.
Last Friday, the UN General Assembly decided to expand Palestine’s rights within the organization and urged its members, but this can only be approved by the Security Council.
The resolution will allow Palestine to participate fully in debates, propose agenda items and elect its representatives to committees, although it will not have the right to vote.
