About 300,000 Palestinians fled Rafah after Israel´s attacks

Ramallah, May 12 (Prensa Latina) Some 300,000 Palestinians fled in the last week the city of Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip, after the beginning of an Israel´s ground invasion, the UN condemned Sunday.

On X, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East (UNRWA) criticized “forced and inhumane displacement of Palestinians.”

There is no safe place to go to, UNRWA repeated three times on that social network in order to emphasize the absence of a safe zone in Gaza.

UNRWA´s General Commissioner, Philippe Lazzarini, also questioned Israel´s military attacks and the exodus of the civilian population.

“The Israeli authorities continue issuing forced displacement orders (…) which is forcing people in Rafah to flee anywhere and everywhere,” he stressed.

Lazzarini recalled that, since the beginning of the war, most of the people living in Gaza were forced to move several times due to Israel´s attacks.

They desperately sought safety that they never found, some have no choice but to stay in bombed shelters, he stressed.

The claim of “safe zones” is false and misleading, there is nowhere safe in Gaza, he said.

Louise Wateridge, UNRWA spokesperson, also condemned the forced displacement in Gaza.

Just a couple of days ago, this whole area of western Rafah was packed with makeshift shelters side by side, but this morning you can see the sand, as one by one families pack up, leave their things by the side of the road and flee, the official posted on X.
