Vladimir Putin presents Mishustin’s candidacy for prime minister

Moscow, May 10 (Prensa Latina) President Vladimir Putin introduced, to the State Duma (Lower House of Parliament), the candidacy of Mikhail Mishustin as prime minister, Vyacheslav Volodin, head of the legislative body, said on Friday.

The politician recalled on his Telegram channel this Friday that the State Duma, for the first time in the history of modern Russia, will form the composition of the government: it will approve the prime minister, lawmakers, and federal ministers.

The lawmakers will have to exercise their new powers established by amendments to the Constitution of the Russian Federation in 2020, Volodin noted.

A new stage of joint work of the legislature and the executive will be opened. If before problems were often explained by the shortcomings of the government or some ministers, now both the government and the State Duma lawmakers will be responsible for the result, he concluded.

The State Duma will consider Mishustin’s candidacy at its May 10th session this year. “The discussion of the prime minister’s candidacy will be held in all factions, and the plenary session of the State Duma will begin at 14:00 hours, Moscow time,” Volodin stated.

Mikhail Mishustin, 58 years old, has been the head of the Russian Government since January 2020.

The cabinet, as established by the Constitution, recently submitted its resignation to President Putin, who was sworn in on May 7.

The ministers and deputy prime ministers will remain in their posts until the new cabinet is approved.
