The also Deputy Director for Education Giannini received the diplomat in a meeting described as cordial by the Cuban side, which highlighted the invitation made to the high official to participate in the international forum Pedagogy-2025, which will be held in February in Havana.
Herrera expressed to her host the priority that her country gives to education and shared details of the impact of the US blockade on the various levels and areas of education.
In that regard, the diplomat said that despite the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba for over 60 years, Cuba is making progress in the sector under the commitment to guarantee quality and inclusive education.
During the meeting at UNESCO headquarters, Giannini and Herrera discussed the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, in particular, the goal devoted to education.
The ambassador thanked the multilateral organization for its support to Cuba, and underscored the ties of cooperation between the sides, a relation that will be 77 years old in August.
At the end of April, Herrera presented her credentials to the Director-General of UNESCO Audrey Azoulay, and took the opportunity to reaffirm Cuba’s commitment to the organization’s values and principles.
