Previously, Putin presented Mishustin’s candidacy for the post of prime minister to the State Duma, and that legislative body approved it in a plenary session this Friday and sent a resolution to the country’s president. The Decree signed by the president says that in accordance with paragraph “a” of article 83 of the Constitution, he appoints Mikhail Mishustin president of the Government of the Russian Federation.
A total of 375 deputies voted in favor of Mishustin’s confirmation as prime minister, while 57 abstained.
Next, the new head of the Cabinet must, no later than one week after his appointment, present to the president proposals on the structure of the federal executive bodies. Within 14 days, the prime minister submits to the approval of the State Duma the candidacies of the deputy prime ministers and federal ministers, except for those of the heads of the security bloc and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, for whom a special procedure.
The Lower House of Parliament makes a decision on the candidates presented by the head of government within a week at the latest. Persons approved by him are appointed to the position by the President of Russia.
