Malaysian NGO against the US blockade of Cuba

Havana, May 10 (Prensa Latina) “The International Movement for a Just World” (JUST), a prestigious organization based in Malaysia, broadcast a call to end the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba, it was reported today.

Through its most recent newsletter, JUST echoed the claim made to a North American senator, written by the Reverends Deborah McEachran and Dr. Eliezer Valentín-Castañón, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs indicated in this capital.

McEachran is the first pastor of the Hunting Ridge Presbyterian Church in Baltimore, while Valentín-Castañón is the Frederick District Superintendent of the Baltimore-Washington Conference of the United Methodist Church, the chancery said on its website.

The text released by JUST indicates that Cuba is currently facing a serious humanitarian crisis, with food shortages, high costs of living and power outages, which explains why the Government of the Caribbean nation requested food aid from the United Nations for the first time in the history.

During the presidency of Barack Obama, a process of relaxing restrictions and improving relations between the two countries began, generating hope in the Cuban people, states the document from the Malaysia-based group.

But, with the arrival of Donald Trump to power, much of that progress was reversed and new sanctions emerged that have aggravated the situation in Cuba, according to the material released by JUST.

Despite the expectations of change with the presidency of Joe Biden, most of Trump’s policies remain in force, indicates the text, which highlights the importance of Senator Ben Cardin, who has the opportunity to lead a change in policy towards Cuba.

Likewise, it mentions that several organizations and community leaders have sent a letter urging Senator Cardin to act and end the blockade.

It also emphasizes that the blockade is widely rejected by both Democrats and Republicans in the United States, while the international community maintains its repeated condemnations.

“The letter also urges Senator Cardin to act quickly and emphasizes that his legacy could be defined by his position in the face of this situation and his ability to promote change,” the Foreign Ministry’s review states. .

International in nature, the Non-Governmental Organization JUST was founded by the social activist and academic Chandra Muzaffar, its current president.

The institution aims to develop global awareness about injustices within the existing system with the goal of evolving towards an alternative international order that improves human dignity and social justice.
