Cuba and Laos established diplomatic relations in the 1970s, sharing the same ideals, with Cuba giving Laos its selfless help, said Viant in an event held in the capital of the province of Hoaphanh, during the beginning of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties, established on November 4th, 1974.
The ambassador thanked and highlighted the particular support of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic for Cuba’s right to freedom, self-determination, and independence, for its commitment to building a just and inclusive society and a prosperous and sustainable socialism, and against the blockade of the United States.
“Cuba has the renewed commitment to continue working on the consolidation and preservation of its humanist essence, integration, and unity, as well as the defense of solidarity, internationalist principles and support for all just causes in the world”, the ambassador said.
Viant also praised the political dialogue at the highest level between both nations based on the coincidence of principles, as established from the beginning by leaders Fidel Castro and Kaysone Phomvihane.
