Vladimir Putin meets with Cuban President Diaz-Canel at Kremlin

Moscow, May 9 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel met on Thursday with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, at the Grand Kremlin Palace on Thursday, during his working visit to Russia. The meeting took place after the Cuban head of State's participation in the military parade in Moscow's Red Square to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

After the military parade, Diaz-Canel, along with the heads of State of nine other nations, laid wreaths at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in front of the Kremlin wall to honor the memory of those who fell in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945).

During the meeting, the Cuban president delivered a message to Putin from the leader of the Cuban Revolution, Army General Raúl Castro, who said that a visit to the Russian Federation is always a source of satisfaction and a moment of learning.

President Putin, in turn, welcomed his Cuban counterpart and thanked him for his presence at the military parade on the 79th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

He also stressed that Cuban patriots participated in the Great Patriotic War, fought on the front, and defended Leningrad in the most complex places. This will always be remembered and respected.

Putin stressed that relations with Cuba have always been based on feelings of friendship and mutual respect.

“We will always support the Cuban people, and we are against the attempts by the United States to limit Cuba’s development, to harm it economically through sanctions and restrictions, but the Cuban people have been fighting against them for decades and feel strong,” the Russian leader concluded.
