This situation was warned earlier by Russian President Vladimir Putin, who predicted the interest of the military alliance in expanding its presence in the border areas.

We are repairing the barrier on the border (…), there are military camps that are supporting the Border Guard (in the region) and the investment for this purpose is the highest in the history of Poland, Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz told Radio Zet.

The incumbent spoke in favor of building a strip of bunkers, trenches and pits along that border area and in Kaliningrad.
