Prisons in Port-au-Prince, Croix-des-Bouquets, Tabarre and Port-de-Paix were left nearly without inmates after the attack; and now all these prisoners -some of them extremely dangerous- constitute a real threat to social peace.
The HNP, according to Haiti Libre, is currently focusing on those who were behind bars at the National Penitentiary, and has already published names and photos of some of them.
Among fugitives was Myrthil Marcelin, known as “Arab”, with several charges.
On February 19, 2024, a writ of Habeas Corpus was filed in favor of the Haitian opponent Mirthyl Marcelin who was accused by the government of former Prime Minister Ariel Henry of threatening the security of the State.
Marcelin was transferred to the National Penitentiary following an arrest warrant issued by the Port-au-Prince Prosecutor’s Office.
He is charged with incitement to violence, conspiracy against state security, death threats and criminal conspiracy, among others.
