During his daily press briefing, AMLO reiterated in response to a journalist’s question that the case is in the international court of justice (ICJ) and his nation maintains that international law, sovereignty and the right to asylum issues were violated.
That is what we are proposing, and we want the Ecuadorian government -not the people- to be sanctioned for this authoritarian, overbearing act, suspending it from the United Nations (UN) until it apologizes publicly and, above all, makes a non-repetition commitment, AMLO stressed.
The Mexican leader also alluded to Mexico’s plan to establish a procedure for any government that violates sovereignty of a state by storming into an embassy to be expelled from the UN.
He proposed that the ICJ pass down the case to UNGA, that all countries vote and that UNSC not intervene, in particular, that none of the powers with the right to veto exercise this privilege, the president proposed, cataloguing the latter as obsolete.
