The Bolivarian Alliance of the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) deeply regretted in a communiqué the human and material losses and expressed its condolences.
The Latin American and Caribbean integration bloc reiterated ‘all its support to the Brazilian people and government’.
It pointed out that this historic catastrophe surpasses the floods of 1941 and is the fourth environmental disaster of this type in a year.
The note indicated that it is a call to continue fighting against the devastating consequences of climate change and to join efforts to mitigate risks in situations such as this one.
ALBA-TCP is closely following the rescue work and supports all the efforts being made by the Brazilian State, led by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, to provide a rapid response to the emergency and assistance to the affected families, the text said.
The heavy rains of the last few days caused the death of more than 80 people and considerable material damage, according to the data released.
