According to Ramokgopa, the improvement recorded in the last month is grounded in structural changes within the national power utility Eskom, which depleted the planned unplanned capacity loss factor by 1,000 megaWatts (MW).
Likewise, he told a press conference, the improvement is because of the type of reforms that have been introduced, with more households and industries taking advantage of solar PV.
The leader added that in such context, thanks to the fiscal support received from the National Treasury, Eskom has been able to invest a significant proportion of time in planned maintenance of its generating units.
Up to date, unplanned outages from April 26, 2024 have been depleted by about 4,000 MW, which compares favorably with the 15,000 MW cut from the national electricity system months ago.
