Neither the West nor Ukraine are ready for dialogue, Russia denounces

Moscow, May 6 (Prensa Latina) Ukraine, together with the governments of Western countries, are playing a parody of negotiations and are not ready for serious talks with Russia, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated on Monday.

“I have given examples of statements by Ukrainian, US and European leaders, the political class. None of them are ready for a serious conversation. They are playing a parody of negotiations in the form of a meeting in Switzerland,” Lavrov said in an interview with the ATV television network.

The head of Russian diplomacy described the meeting on Ukraine as a “dead end,” and recalled that the West is doing everything it can to involve as many developing countries and the Global South as possible in the meeting in Switzerland, which will hold a peace conference on Ukraine in Burgenstock, near the city of Lucerne, on June 15 and 16.

On April 9, the spokesman for the Russian Embassy in Bern, Vladimir Khokhlov, said that Russia will refuse participating in such an event if it receives an invitation, since the summit seeks to promote the Ukrainian peace formula, which is unviable because it does not takes Russian interests into account.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova noted on April 11 that Moscow will not participate in the meeting, as it represents just a platform to promote the so-called peace formula of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.

Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis stressed some time ago that “no peace process can be carried out without Russia.”

On April 12, Lavrov warned that the possible presentation of a “collective ultimatum” to Russia at the conference on Ukraine in Switzerland nullifies any possibility for that event to be successful.
