According to the online Haiti Libre newspaper, alarmed journalists are fleeing that country, reducing their media coverage or abandoning the profession altogether.
Since January 2022, 11 media workers have been killed on the ground, others have been injured and several reporters have had the bitter experience of being kidnapped.
All those incidents make Haiti one of the most dangerous countries in the world to be a journalist.
The poll by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, published by the Haitian newspaper, referred that 76% of journalists suffered threats related to their profession and 62% were targets of verbal and online harassment.
The survey further found that 30% were victims of physical threats and 54% indicated that the harassment had an impact on their work.
