On X, the Cuban leader posted he met with Byanyima at the seat of the Government and told her Cuba has come out with the ideas on dealing with this deadly disease.
Díaz-Canel explained to Byanyima about the community and intersectoral project of a Cuban program to fight off HIV/AIDS.
The program involves all ministries, organizations and activities to prevent and treat HIV/AIDS patients, taking into account the role of science and innovation, said the Cuban president.
He also commented the impact of the U.S. blockade on the Cuban health system, which entails greater efforts for the comprehensive care of people living with HIV/AIDS.
The head of state expressed his confidence in South-South cooperation in a world where conflicts prevail, the gap between rich and poor is growing and access to medicine in general is highly politicized.
In this regard, he denounced the way in which transnational corporations operate medicine trade and medical treatments, which are not interested in people’s health, but quite the opposite.
In this context, he said, Cuba continues facing up problems with talent and resistance, and maintains its willingness to continue cooperating with UNAIDS.
Speaking to the presidential press, Byanyima acknowledged that Cuba is at the forefront in the fight against HIV/AIDS and recalled that Cuba was the first country in the world to eliminate the mother-to children transmission.
Byanyima assured that she visited Cuba to learn about its record in treating HIV/AIDS patients.
