From May 7 to 10 at the Animation Studios of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industries (ICAIC), the event ‘Ten Years with MIYAZAKI Hayao’ will feature a four-part documentary on the renowned filmmaker, according to the Japanese Embassy to Havana.
Miyazaki is an internationally renowned Japanese animated film director, animator, illustrator, entrepreneur, and anime producer with a career spanning five decades.
Along with Isao Takahata, the known father of Japanese animation founded Studio Ghibli, dedicated to films of the genre.
The veteran filmmaker won a historic Oscar in 2024, aged 83, with his film The Boy and the Heron in the Best Animated Film category.
Japan will further present at MICE on the opening day, in the Cuba Pavilion, a lecture on anime by Professor Mario Masvidal.
Likewise, on the bill is the screening of the 2017 film ‘Pompas de jabon,’ (Soap Bubbles) with screenings on May 11 at 17:00 local time at the Multicine Infanta in Havana, and on May 12 at 14:00 local time at the New Latin American Film Foundation.
As announced in Havana, the 4th International Educational Film Festival will cover all 190 cinemas operating in Cuba, and its programme is based on the school as the most important cultural center in the community.
It will feature an exhibition of materials made by children, adolescents and young people, audiovisual training workshops and master classes, among many other proposals.
