Bob Morisho, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs in Tanganyika province, said that the families have been forced to leave their homes due to the flooding, so the Government is seeking support to mobilize funds to help the approximately 141,000 victims.
The minister stressed that only those who agree to relocate will receive assistance.
Most affected people stay with host families, and others sleep in churches.
In addition to the flooded homes in Tanganyika, hundreds of schools have been damaged, and several healthcare centers in Kalemie and the six areas of the province have been flooded or collapsed.
