At the closing ceremony of the International Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba and against Imperialism, held at the Havana International Conference Center (HICC), Díaz-Canel claimed that Cuba is not exempt from consequences of the current multidimensional crisis.
The Cuban leader commented that Cuba’s situation has also been worsened due to the hostile and unjust blockade imposed by the United States for over 60 years.
The head of state explained that the economic stiffling plans against Cuba have references in the Mallory Memorandum of the 1960s, in which Washington intended to call whoever was necessary to overthrow the Cuban Revolution, he said.
The president declared that this policy has escalated over the years and its maximum expression today is the inclusion of Cuba in the unilateral state-sponsor-of-terrorism (SSOT) list.
Cuba supports solidarity, said the president, who recalled that the only troops sent by Cuba to other nations are those of international aid workers and teachers.
Regarding smear campaign, Díaz-Canel said that there is a lively, tested and orchestrated campaign by the U.S. government, in the international media and especially in social networks to discredit the Cuban Revolution.
In view of this scenario, he stressed the significance of educating the people on the ethical use of social networks.
