Cuba urges to strengthen solidarity against U.S. blockade

Havana, May 2 (Prensa Latina) The president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, on Thursday urged to strengthen solidarity with Cuba ahead of the tightening of the unjust blockade imposed by the U.S. government.

Taking the floor at the International Meeting in Solidarity with Cuba and against Imperialism, held at the Havana International Conference Center (HICC), Fernando Gonzalez claimed that following long-hour debates and visits to centers of economic interest, participants have a clear idea of the consequences this hostile policy can bring about.

You will be able to convey to your communities the truth about Cuba, which, in addition to the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, faces smear campaigns from the United States in order to seek a social uprising, while the U.S. government tightens its unjust blockade and includes Cuba in its unilateral state-sponsor-of-terrorism (SST) list.

Gonzalez pointed out that the effects of such a genocidal policy are visible in different essential services and has an impact on children, the elderly, mothers and population in general.

He also assured that Cuba is accompanied in its struggles by a solid movement that includes organizations, social movements, political parties and individuals, and thanked the expressions of solidarity, respect and support for the island’s right to self-determination, sovereignty and independence.

ICAP´s president claimed that Cuba defends the premise of Latin America and the Caribbean as a zone of peace, and reiterated support for Venezuela and Nicaragua.

He also strongly condemned the Israeli genocide against the Palestinian civilian population, and called for an immediate ceasefire, while reiterating the pressing need for dialogue in the resolution of conflicts.
