Prime Minister analyzes situation of elderly homes in Cuba

Havana, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero said today that difficulties persist in the implementation of multisectoral policies and programs related to the care of grandparents' homes, homes for the elderly and psycho-pedagogical medical centers.

In the social network X, the head of government informed that this problem was the focus of the most recent meeting of the governmental commission for the attention to the demographic dynamics.

In the meeting, he detailed in the platform, it was revealed that the authorities’ visits to the municipalities were found difficulties in the incorporation of all the community actors, in order to continue improving care quality for the elderly.

Marrero emphasized that in the grandparents’ homes, nursing homes and psycho-pedagogic medical centers, maximum welfare must be guaranteed to the people who receive care there.

In the governmental commission, the head called not to continue looking at these issues as statistics, ‘but with the sensitivity that they carry to solve the situations that arise’.

Here there is irresponsibility, here there are even things that happen because of high negligence’, he said.

In her turn, Deputy Prime Minister Inés María Chapman insisted on the importance of adequately supervising how the budget allocated for the elderly is being used to ensure that they have the necessary conditions.

‘We have to plan what to do, who is going to sponsor each home for the elderly, put it with name and surname, if we do not put a date for compliance, responsible, we will continue with the same and we will not have results’, she warned.
