NGO denounces destruction of second largest city in Gaza

Ramallah, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) Khan Yunis, the second largest city in the Gaza Strip, is a ghost city due to the level of destruction caused by the Israeli Army, the Save the Children NGO denounced.

The organization recalled in a statement that more than 200,000 Palestinians lived in the city before the start of the current cycle of violence on October 7th, 2023.

After an assessment mission to the area, the group noted that most of the buildings are “severely damaged or are turned into rubble,” and that some people returned to protect what was left of their property and belongings.

Save the Children said it observed many children walking alone along destroyed streets and near destroyed or heavily damaged buildings.

According to an interim assessment by the World Bank, more than 60 percent of residential buildings and almost 80 percent of businesses in Gaza were damaged or destroyed between October 2023 and January 2024.

Khan Yunis was one of the cities most punished by the Israeli invasion, on the grounds that it was a stronghold of the Islamic Resistance Movement.

The Israeli military repeatedly raided the Nasser and Al-Amal hospitals, two of the largest in the territory.
