Cuban Prime Minister inaugurated the 69th UN Tourism meeting

Varadero, Cuba, April 30 (Prensa Latina) The Prime Minister of Cuba, Manuel Marrero, inaugurated today the 69th meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for the Americas (CAM), a space attended by 24 Ministers of Tourism from the countries members.

The event, which meets in the resort of Varadero, is designed to debate the trends and perspectives of regional tourism.

Marrero highlighted the importance of the meeting, which was preceded by the seminar “Promoting tourism development through innovation in Community Tourism”, a prioritized topic in Cuba.

Science and innovation are part of the Government’s work pillars, he said. He gave as an example the Life task, which consists of defining places where tourism development should not be carried out, as areas of possible flooding derived from the impact of climate change.

The Government establishes the protection of tourism as a policy in whose territorial development plans the regulations that protect tourist centers and investment and infrastructure plans are established, he pointed out.

Areas with special regulations for the development of tourism are also classified (area of ​​high significance for the sector, territories of preferential tourist use and strips for real estate development associated with tourism).

When referring to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States, he stressed that despite the difficulties that this represents, the development of tourism has not stopped, since there is awareness that this will allow us to achieve greater economic growth for the benefit of the people. .

Tourism is one of the sectors most impacted by the United States blockade policy, he noted.

In this regard, the Secretary General of UN Tourism, Zurab Pololikashvili, highlighted the support that his organization offers to the Antillean country.

He highlighted the importance of holding this meeting on the island, which has a wide attendance of personalities from the sector.

Cuba has a rich history, culture and tourism has a wide variety of attractions, he stated.

From the charms of historic Havana to the beautiful beaches and despite the economic difficulties, it is proud to work with the Government and the authorities of the sector so that it continues to grow in size and importance.

When addressing the topic of investments, he commented that it is impossible in the face of blockades and so many difficulties, it is absurd. However, Cuba is one of the safest countries I have traveled to, he assured.

On the other hand, he addressed the challenges of education for the transformation of people.

A few hours before the 42nd edition of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2024) from May 1 to 5, the CAM that takes place in Cuba will have the participation of executives from the sector on a global scale.
