Chile requests international help to clarify triple crime

Santiago, Chile, Apr 30 (Prensa Latina) The Chilean Government requested international help to clarify the murder of three Carabineros (Chilean Police officers), a fact that shocked the country and is the worst attack on the institution since the return to democracy in 1990.

In the early hours of Saturday, April 27, sub-officials Sergio Arévalo, Misael Vidal, and José Cisterna were killed in the Cañete community of the Biobío region by armed individuals who also set fire to the armored vehicle in which they were traveling.

Due to the crime occurred in a rural area with little signal, Chile is managing help, especially with satellites, to know as much as possible about the movements that happened on that day, the people involved in the event, and the dynamics that took place, the Government spokeswoman Camila Vallejo said.

Interior Minister Carolina Tohá, in turn, added that qualified teams are available to work on the ground.

Tohá confirmed that several lines of investigation are being explored to rule out any possibility.

Araucania’s Regional Prosecutor, Roberto Garrido, is overseeing the investigations.

Cañete, Contulmo, and Tirúa municipalities are under curfew from 22:00 hours to 5:00 hours local time, and the Army decided to increase the number of personnel to reinforce patrols in the region.
