Waris will have a busy agenda that includes meetings with local authorities and institutions, the Cuban Foreign Ministry reported on its website.
According to the source, at these meetings, the UN independent expert will verify the negative impact of the foreign debt and the United States blockade on Cubans’ enjoyment of human rights.
She will also meet with representatives of civil society to share experiences, good practices and lessons learned about the protection of human rights in Cuba, and in particular about how the foreign debt affects them.
The UN expert’s visit to Cuba is part of the cooperation that Cuba develops with the UN human rights machinery and its institutions of universal and non-discriminatory implementation, the Foreign Ministry stated.
The 2nd International Congress on the Need for a New International Economic Order aims to promote dialogue on the problems that hinder development and world peace, as a consequence of an unbalanced international economic, political, scientific-technological and military order with hegemonic preponderances.
