“The ICJ must process those responsible for violations in the occupied territories as a first step towards achieving justice for the Palestinian people,” the NGO said in a statement and denounced the historical injustice suffered by the Palestinians and the impunity with which Israel and its military act.
In the face of the situation, the Monitor urged the Prosecutor of the ICJ, Karim Khan, to apply judicial procedures in conformity with the Statute of Rome as quickly as possible “for the good of the victims and in the interest of peace and justice in the region and the world.” He also called on the world to back up the ICJ, “especially in light of the continued non-observance of its international obligations towards preventing and stopping the heinous crimes committed against the Palestinian people.”
“All countries must implement their legal and moral obligations and abide by the arrest and extradition requests if they are issued against the accused Israelites”, the Observatory stressed.
The NGO expressed concern over the press reports regarding the political pressure campaigns launched by Israel and its allies to prevent the court’s ruling.
According to diverse media outlets, the arrest warrants threaten Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Defense Minister Yoav Galant, and the head of the General Staff of the Army, Herzi Halevi, among others.
Days ago, Netanyahu claimed that an eventual warrant by the ICJ would not hinder Israel’s attacks against the Strip, and refused to acknowledge it.
