At the latest session of the Council of Ministers, chaired by Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel, Marrero stressed that although the best levels of production or performance cannot be achieved, it is possible to continue to move forward. Alternatives always appear, he said.

The Presidency of the Republic reported on its website that the Executive monitored the status of implementation of the measures approved in the Government’s Projections to correct distortions and re-boost the economy in 2024.

The first deputy minister of Economy and Planning, Mildrey Granadillo, explained that in compliance with the approved schedule, from March 23 to April 19, work was done primarily on projections with an impact on the reduction of the fiscal deficit, the mechanism for the allocation and management of currencies.

Granadillo indicated that the work also focused on the relationships between the different economic stockholders, food production, the price policy and the strengthening of the socialist state enterprise.

The source explained that during that period, new prices for cigarettes and cigars were implemented, in addition to proposals for updated legal regulations for non-state economic actors that were circulated to all agencies of the Central State Administration.

Likewise, the conciliation process on the criteria on the Draft Business Law was concluded, and the constant monitoring of the implementation of projections on social programs was maintained.

In this regard, the prime minister informed that it was decided to carry out a comprehensive review of the Government’s Projections and the approved Action Plan, taking into considerations the doubts expressed by the population, and the result of the tours of the territories, among other factors.

Marrero pointed out that as a result of this review, the projections were modified and expanded, now standing at 92.

The agenda of the Council of Ministers in April included the approval of the report on the results of the contracting and marketing process for agricultural products in late March.

The behavior of the main indicators of the domestic economy in late March and the approval of the report on the execution of the State Budget and the behavior of the fiscal deficit at the end of February were also addressed.

The Government approved exercising the legislative initiative of several draft laws, which will be debated by lawmakers at the National People’s Power Assembly (Parliament) in upcoming sessions of the legislative body.

These legal norms refer to the Migration Law, the Immigration Law, the Administrative Procedure Law, and the Law on the System of Honorary Titles and Decorations of the Republic of Cuba.
