In a statement sent to Prensa Latina, BNC first dancer and director Viengsay Valdés pointed out that the date is significant for all actors and admirers of this discipline.
Established in 1982 by the United Nations Education, Science and Culture Organization (UNESCO) in honor of French dancer Jean-Georges Noverre, considered the creator of modern ballet, the day is also a reason for great performances in Spain, especially flamenco.
“The best way to celebrate this day is, precisely, doing what we love most: dance, and these days we are doing it for one of our most loyal audiences, the Spanish public,” Valdés said.
“These are days of many travels, classes, rehearsals, and performances, but also many satisfactions, because every success of the National Ballet of Cuba is a triumph of Cuban culture. And that makes us proud,” she stressed.
The BNC director took the opportunity to congratulate dancers, choreographers, teachers, rehearsers, technicians, musicians, directors, designers, students, make-up artists, researchers, and scholars.
In the next few days, the BNC will perform, in Terrasa, San Cugat, and Manresa, in Catalonia, and after moving to Lisbon, where it will perform twice: on May 10 and 11, before returning to Spain.

Ballet Nacional de Cuba celebra en España Día de la Danza
Madrid, 29 abr (Prensa Latina) Una intensa gira por España, con actuaciones futuras también en Portugal, destacan hoy en el Ballet Nacional de Cuba (BNC), que festeja así el Día Internacional de la Danza.
En una declaración remitida a Prensa Latina, la primera bailarina y directora del BNC, Viengsay Valdés, apuntó que la fecha es significativa para todos los actores y admiradores de esta disciplina.
Instituida en 1985 por la Unesco en honor al bailarín francés Jean-Georges Noverre, considerado creador del ballet moderno, la jornada es igualmente motivo de grandes presentaciones en España, especialmente de flamenco.
“La mejor forma de festejar este día es, precisamente, haciendo lo que más nos gusta: bailar, y por estos días, lo estamos haciendo para uno de nuestros públicos más fieles, el español”, comentó Valdés.
“Son días de muchos viajes, clases, ensayos y funciones, pero también de muchas satisfacciones, porque cada éxito del Ballet Nacional de Cuba, es un triunfo de la cultura cubana. Y eso nos enorgullece”, resaltó.
La titular del BNC aprovechó la ocasión para transmitir felicitaciones a bailarines, coreógrafos, maestros, ensayadores, técnicos, músicos, directores, diseñadores, estudiantes, maquillistas, investigadores y estudiosos.
El BNC se presenta en los próximos días en Terrasa, San Cugat y Manresa, en Cataluña, para luego trasladarse a Lisboa, donde realizará dos funciones los días 10 y 11 de mayo, antes de regresar a España.
