Angola and South Korea seek to strengthen cooperation

Seoul, Apr 29 (Prensa Latina) Kim Jin-pyo, Speaker of the National Assembly of South Korea, expressed on Monday his interest in strengthening cooperation with Angola during the visit of President João Lourenço.

Kim mentioned the abundance of natural resources, the youth of the population, and oil production as some of the factors that make the African country competitive.

The Angolan head of State, in turn, expressed the importance his country attaches to South Korea’s industrial capacity and technological development, which has led to the accelerated progress of its economy.

Lourenço explained the work that his Government is currently promoting in creating basic infrastructures, which, in addition to improving services for the population, also serve as a basis for industrialization.

Another aspect highlighted by the president was the natural resources Angola possesses, such as the so-called strategic minerals, which are in great demand by the electronics industry, one of the leading sectors of South Korea.

The visit to the National Assembly of South Korea was the first in the program of the president’s official visit.

Lourenço arrived in Seoul on Sunday for a 48-hour official visit, during which he must hold talks with his South Korean counterpart, Yoon Suk-yeol, and sign several cooperation agreements.

Angola and South Korea signed a general cooperation agreement in 1993.

Since then, the two nations have signed four other agreements, a protocol, five memoranda of understanding, and two supplementary agreements.
