The Foreign Minister expressed this position in a statement read on his behalf by the permanent representative of Syria, Qusay Al-Dahhak, during the Security Council meeting dedicated to discussing the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian issue.
Al-Mekdad denounced that the genocide committed against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the repeated attacks against Syrian territory are part of a long series of acts of aggression and terrorism perpetrated amid the inability of the United Nations to implement its resolutions due to US support to Israel.
Washington deliberately paralyzed the Security Council and went against the will of the vast majority of United Nations members, using its veto four times to prevent a ceasefire in Gaza giving the green light to Israeli war criminals to continue committing massacres, destruction, and displacement.
The diplomat believes that the abject failure of Israeli war criminals to undermine the will of the Palestinian people and achieve their military objectives in Gaza, led them to bomb civilians with unprecedented brutality and commit genocide and war crimes against humanity, in clear contempt for the provisions of international laws and the principles and purposes of the Charter of the United Nations.
The Minister held the Israeli occupation authorities and the countries that support them fully responsible for the escalation and its repercussions and demanded that the United Nations work to stop this aggression and lift the siege, end the systematic famine imposed on the Palestinians, prevent forced displacement and ensure that Israel be held accountable for its crimes.
