The accused, identified as Ahlam Albashir, allegedly planted the bomb in the central Istiklal avenue, based on her links with the Kurdish guerrillas of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), considered by Ankara as a terrorist organization.
According to the Turkish authorities, the sentence includes a sentence of 1,794 years in prison for Albashir, who was tried before an Istanbul court together with 14 people possibly also implicated in the incident.
According to the court, she “attacked the unity and territorial integrity of the Turkish state” and “deliberately killed by planting a bomb in a premeditated manner”.
The ruling also includes a fine of 22,000 Turkish Liras, around 650 euros, for 99 offenses of attempted intentional murder and possession of dangerous substances without a permit.
The defendant’s lawyers argued that the defendant was pregnant at the time of the events and her mental health was not good, Anatolia news agency reported.
