Petro denies norm to ask Venezuelans for passport in Colombia

Bogota, Apr 26 (Prensa Latina) Colombian President Gustavo Petro on Friday denied information published local media saying that the government is considering asking Venezuelan migrants for updated passports to enter the country.

“This is not true. My government will not require passports to Venezuelan migrants,” the president wrote on his social network X as the only response to an announcement made by Noticias Caracol that echoed this alleged measure

According to that media, the Foreign Ministry would have changed the rules of the game for Venezuelans who want to enter Colombia, and added that they would be required to have a valid passport.

It even showed images of an alleged draft decree which would make it mandatory to carry an updated passport as a requirement to enter Colombia.

Currently, Venezuelan passports can be used to enter, transit stay and leave the Colombian territory, during the next ten years after their expiration date, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
