The officer was serving in a polce station in the capital, the so-called Sindicato de Policías Agremiados de Canelones (Sidepac) reported.

This is the third case in less than a week, and occurs in a context in which the suicide rate in the police force exceeds that of the general population.

So far in 2024, seven suicides have been reported in the police force.

The union demands psychological attention at least once a month outside the orbit of the Ministry of the Interior, in addition to psychological inquiries in police stations.
