Italy pays tribute to Cuba for its support in fighting Covid-19

Rome, Apr 25 (Prensa Latina) The northern Piedmontese community of Boves paid tribute on Thursday to the victims of Covid-19, as well as to Cuba for its solidarity support with medical brigades, which arrived in Italy in the hardest days of the pandemic.

The ceremony, held as part of the events on the occasion of the Liberation Day, took place at 09:00 hours, local time, in a park on Domonosola St. The event was chaired by Mayor Maurizio Paoletti, who stressed the importance of the help of nations such as Cuba, Norway, Albania and Romania at those difficult times.

A monument was unveiled at the site, surrounded by these four countries’ flags, showing the image of a nurse embracing Italy, a symbol of the tragedy that this country went through since the outbreak of the pandemic in January 2020.

Cuban ambassador in Rome Mirta Granda published a message on social networks in which she noted that ‘the work is a tribute to the health personnel from Italy and other nations of the world that, like Cuba, offered their help to Italy at the most critical time of the pandemic.

Between April and July 2020, a Cuban medical brigade, made up of 20 doctors and 18 nurses and technicians, worked for three months at a hospital in the city of Turin, in the northern region of Piedmont, where they saved hundreds of lives.

Another group of Cuban health professionals, also members of the Henry Reeve Medical Brigade, made up of 37 doctors and 15 nursing specialists, provided assistance between March and May 2020 in the city of Crema, in the region of Lombardy, one of the most affected by the disease.
