After participating the day before, in Venezuela, in the 23rd Summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), the president remarked on the principles of peace, unity, solidarity, and cooperation promoted by this regional integration mechanism.
He described the initiative as a “Miracle Alliance that made seemingly impossible projects and feats a reality, that have benefited millions in social orders”.
He affirmed that despite the obstacles, this grouping of countries has proved how much can be done from the South, beyond blockades and difficulties decreed by empires and mercilessly imposed by the current international order, which is deeply unjust.
In its 22-point Final Declaration, the XXIII ALBA-TCP Summit reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen ALBA as a mechanism for union, dialogue, and political coordination, based on the principles of solidarity, social justice, cooperation, and economic complementarity.
The Latin American and Caribbean leaders also expressed their commitment to the defense of national sovereignty without external interference and rejected the postulates of the Monroe Doctrine which, after 200 years, continues to be used to justify destabilizing and interventionist actions in the region.
