On Thursday, members of the Armed Forces stormeed into the Guayas Prison, known as the Regional Prison, where they seized an arsenal of weapons and ammunition.
Previously, the Armed Forces also raided the Sucumbios prison in order to keep order in there.
On April 8, President Daniel Noboa issued a decree recognizing the persistence of an internal armed conflict in the country and ordered measures to maintain operations against insecurity.
With the new executive decree, the Government determined that the Armed Forces can execute military operations to “prevent and eliminate organized armed groups in the national territory to continue operating”.
